How to Fill Your Punching Bag
Filling your punching bag is a straightforward process, and you have two main options: with sand or without sand. Adding sand increases the bag’s weight, while filling it entirely with textile creates a dense but slightly lighter bag. You might be surprised by how heavy a fully textile-filled bag can be.
If you prefer a heavier bag, follow these steps:
Start with a Base Layer
Begin by filling the bottom of the bag with tightly packed textile.
Prepare the Sand Layer
Place a sealed ziplock bag of sand in the center.
Ensure the sand is loosely packed to prevent it from becoming rock-hard upon impact.
Reinforce the sandbag with duct tape to prevent leaks.
Compact the Textile Around the Sand
Use a broom handle or similar tool to press the textile firmly around the sandbag, keeping it centered within the core of the punching bag.
Continue Layering
Add another layer of textile, compacting as you go.
Repeat the process, alternating layers of textile and sand, ensuring even weight distribution.
Fill to the Top
Continue until the bag is fully packed and firm.
Maintaining Shape and Longevity
To help the bag retain its shape, place a circular piece of layered cardboard (three or so layers) wrapped in duct tape at both the bottom and the top before sealing it. Over time, the textile will naturally compress as you train, so keep extra fabric on hand to top up the filling when needed until the bag has fulled setltled.
